I've had the 2022 about 6 weeks and have to say the 1.5 surprised me. Seeing that the 2.0 was no longer available I really got the willies. My wife and I absolutely loved the 2013 and she campaigned hard for another Equinox - since she is disabled and finds the Equinox easy to get in and out of I figured maybe I could be a bit open minded about a 4cyl. ![]() I haven't had a 4cylinder since the 70s so this was quite a leap for me. I had great reservations about buying the 2022 due to the 1.5T 4 banger. Unfortunately there is no longer a choice for the consumer to choose between a 1.5 or a 2.0 powered vehicle, as the 2.0 hasn't been available since the 2020 model year in a Equinox. The argument against the 2.0 was the initial cost and the recommendation for the use of 93 octane fuel. The fuel economy isn't much different between the two engines, a slight edge to the 1.5. Another plus: The 2.0 engine makes the vehicle entertaining to drive I appreciate my decision to purchase a 2.0 powered Equinox every time I drive it. The 2.0 powered Equinox/Terrain has an abundance of power in all situations and in my opinion is safer to drive because of this. The 1.5 engine just has no reserve performance available if called upon. Where I deem the 1.5 equipped models deficient is when the vehicle is heavily loaded, in hilly terrain, bucking a strong headwind, passing on two lane highways and attempting to use it to tow a trailer. I would categorize the 1.5 equipped Equinox/Terrain as marginally powered but adequate in certain conditions the Terrain has the advantage of the 9 speed trans paired with the 1.5. I've driven both and own a 2019 Redline 2.0. I was very apprehensive about buying this car due to the reviews about the horsepower and sluggishness so to speak, but again do your research and stick to YOUR thoughts and try not to be persuaded by others who for whatever reason are simply anti GM or are comparing apples to oranges.īuy the car with confidence and enjoy a comfortable, roomy and somewhat upscale ride.ĭo yourself a favour and get the 8" infotainment, you will thank me.It is very very good!
